Before I dive into which is BETTER, what the heck is the difference?
Well macros make up calories.
"Macros" are short for macronutrients.
Macronutrients are the components of food that our bodies breakdown and use for energy helps us maintain our body's structures and systems.
Macros:
1 gram of Protein = 4 calories
1 grams of Carbohydrates = 4 calories
1 gram of Fats = 9 calories
So when we track our calories, we are looking at the macronutrients added up as a whole.
When we track macros, we are specifically tracking the breakdown of each.
Tracking macros is a more precise way to fuel our bodies, since we know how much of each energy source we are consuming and utilizing.
When we just tracking calories, all the calories can be coming from just one energy source, which is not very optimal.
Each macronutrients is crucial to our health, internal and external functions of our body and even to changing the composition and shape of our bodies.
It makes it a lot harder to change our physiques when we don't have "enough" or "adequate amount" of each macronutrient.
So in conclusion, tracking macros is MORE precise and makes it much easier to maintain and better your health and body because you can account for proper nutrient balance.
BUT, as a beginner, starting with calories and tracking your protein can be VERY beneficial and less overwhelming. You can always get more precise as you learn and get comfortable tracking.
Let me know if this helped you!
