Macros VS Meal Plan // Which is better?




There are pros and cons to both. So let's talk about that before we decide which is "better"...



PRO MEAL PLAN:

-Consistent

-Easier to follow

-Easy to measure changes

-Less variables that can effect body

-Less thoughts about food


PRO MACROS:

-More flexibility

-Easy to swap things out

-Ability to change things up

-Easy to track out to eat


Now the CONS....


CON MEAL PLAN:

-Can feel strict/rigid

-Harder to make swaps

-Harder to go out to eat



CON MACROS:

-More variables that can effect body

-More thoughts and focus on foods and creating the next meal



As you can see, both are great! But both also have their drawbacks.



I would say MEAL PLANS are ideally for those that may need structure, less thoughts about food and just more execution, and for those using it for a temporary amount of time for a short term goal (ex: gut issue, hormonal imbalances, competitions, etc.)


So I would say that MACROS are ideally for those that need and want more flexibility to be able to change up their meals more often and be able to have sustainability in their eating habits.


So in my opinion, they both have their time and purpose. I think overall MACROS are beneficial for EVERYONE to understand and have practice with to help them better understand what their body needs (amount wise) to reach their goals.


Also, macros help with understanding how to create balanced meals whether you're cooking for yourself or going out to eat.
