There are a few things to think about before staring a dieting phase (fat loss phase).
I want to share the TWO MAIN things I go through with every single client with before starting a dieting phase!
Are you physically ready?
Are you mentally ready?
What does that even mean?
Well, these are some things to consider...
How much are you eating daily?
Have you been eating at maintenance or in a surplus the past 4+ months?
Have you been in and out of diets for as long as you can remember?
Are you consistent with nutrition during the week and fall off on the weekend?
How do you view food?
Do you have an all-or-nothing mindset around food?
Do you restrict your intake?
Do you allow ALL foods in your diet?
Is your overall digestion optimal? Consistent bowel movements?
Do you know what foods work well for your body and which don't?
Have you been following any sort of nutrition routine the past month?
Have you been following any sort of training/workout routine the past month?
Is your energy high?
Is your stress high?
How is your sleep?
There are a lot more things to think about, but this is a great start!
Are you ready for a diet?
It's more than just, "YES I want to lose fat NOW".
It's about your body actually being READY.
A diet adds stress to the body. If your body is already VERY stressed, more stress can make it almost impossible to lose fat.
**Stress is NOT a "bad" thing, but too much of anything can have a negative affect on the body**
It's also important to be MENTALLY READY.
If you have a unhealthy relationship with food, binge and restrict your intake or certain foods, struggle to be consistent with a routine, or have an all-or-nothing mindset about food or your physique goals... committing to a dieting phase right now may not be the smartest thing to do.
It may make your relationship with food worse, which will then make it harder to sustain the fat loss.
If you struggle with an all-or-nothing mindset right now, starting a restrict diet won't fix that habit. It can lead to burn out which leads to an inability to sustain results/fat loss.
We all want results NOW, but it's important our bodies and mind are actually READY for a dieting phase.
Everything is temporary.
You will ALWAYS be able to diet and lose fat. When you choose the best time for your mind AND body, that's when results will come much quicker and last much longer.
